ZULU FAKIN’ THA FUNK (YOU GET DID)
Los Angeles hardcore band Zulu announce their debut album A New Tomorrow with an abrasive new single 'Fakin’ Tha Funk (You Get Did)'. Initially a solo endeavour from Anaiah Lei, started in 2019, the project has grown into a full band releasing a couple of EP's of their unique power violence infused hardcore. The new record sees the band expanding their sound further with features from Soul Glo’s Pierce Jordan, Truth Cult’s Paris Roberts, and Playytime’s Obioma Ugonna, and discussing themes of Black identity from a different angle, Lei explains: "While our past material was a more direct approach and very in your face about the treatment of Black individuals around the world, I wanted to step away and express the love and beauty of us. That through all the hard things we go through, that’s not just what we are and it doesn’t define us. Our culture is so rich and vast, and I couldn’t even begin to explain all of that. But some of the topics that make this record include unity and love in the community and hope for ourselves." The new record is set for release on Flatspot records on the 3rd of March. -Toby Evans-Jesra
